Another type of tax you should be aware of for ESOPs are Capital Gains tax. Capital gains tax is the tax an employee pays when they have exercised their options and want to sell the stocks. This means when you exercise, or buy the stocks at the grant price, you pay income tax. Whereas when you sell these bought stocks, you pay capital gains tax.
